Polish director Andrej Zulawski’s 1981 ‘Possession’ remains one of the most demented movies of all time, constantly careening from mad creature-feature horror movie to Bergman-esque marital breakdown and back again. This psychological horror drama film stars Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill and was an international co-production between France and West Germany.
Trying to classify Possession, critics drew parallels with Roman Polanski’s Repulsion and David Cronenberg’s The Brood. The genre of the film is still matter of controversy. Shortly after its release, the film was banned from distribution in the United Kingdom.
